I have exciting news to share with you today: a new book is about to be released, and one of my projects was included! It’s called Never Been Stitched, by Amanda Carestio. It has an assortment of no-sew and low-sew projects in it. (Edit: I’m giving away a copy of this book right now! Giveaway ends Saturday 2/15. Go enter for a chance to win your own copy of this book!)
My children were really excited to see the book and to find my name in it. They were even more excited, though, by all of the projects inside! They immediately picked out projects they wanted to try. Today’s Love Monsters are from one of those projects. Wendi Gratz from Shiny Happy World (one of my favorite blogs!) made really adorable sock monsters for the book, which require absolutely no sewing! All you need is a sock, some yarn, and eyes! Wendi shows you how to use safety eyes in the book; you’ll feel confident using them in any project after reading her instructions! We didn’t have safety eyes on hand, so we used googly eyes and tacky glue, which has worked perfectly.
Here’s how we cut our sock:
Then we followed Wendi’s instructions, and ended up with our adorable Love Monsters! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, too! We loved this project so much that we’re going to do it again at Miss Adventuress’ tiger birthday party this weekend. Miss Adventuress made these Love Monsters almost entirely by herself! I helped her hold the yarn while she tied, but the stuffing, the design, the tying, and the gluing on of the face were all done independently! It’s a wonderful project for kids.
Wouldn’t you love to get your hands on a copy of that book, Never Been Stitched? You’ll want to come back on Saturday, because I am giving away a copy! I won’t even make you jump through eighteen hoops to enter the giveaway, either!
I’m off to do more party prep. I finished my tiger mandarin orange cups last night, and made excellent progress on a no-sew felt colored pencil roll-up for a party favor…the very one you see on the cover of Never Been Stitched, actually! Another tiger party prep post is coming soon!
