One for me and one for you

A while back I mentioned that I wanted my blogging to really make a difference.  I don’t want to be just another blog that [hopefully] gives you great inspiration or adds to your to-do list.  Worse yet, I don’t want to be a blog that makes you think you aren’t doing enough yourself and feel guilty for not doing more.  I don’t think any blog does this intentionally, but I’ve definitely felt that way after visiting some excellent blogs!  I blog to share ideas, and primarily to keep me motivated to actually finish the projects on my own list!  It’s also a fun way to connect with more people, which is nice as a stay-at-home mom.

Enter: One for me and one for you.

Most of my projects are things for my home or for my children.  Sometimes people see things I’ve made for my children, and say, I wish I could do that!  Or, where can I get one?  And sometimes I visit people’s homes who don’t have as much as we do, and I think how their children would love to have some of the same things I make for my children.  And, guess what?  I can do something about that!  Instead of just making things for myself and my children, I can make things for other people as well!  What better way of doing that than to make something for someone else when I make something for our family?

I’m not going to be legalistic about this.  I’m not going to keep strict track of this, or refuse to make something for my children because I didn’t even up the score of making something for someone else after my last project.

But I am going to take an informal pledge, that when I make something, I’m going to try to make something for someone else who would appreciate it as well.  Sometimes I’ll simply double my project.  Sometimes I’ll make a crayon roll or wallet, or similar; I’ve never met a child who didn’t love the idea of having one of those!

Maybe you’d like to participate as well?  You don’t have to have your own blog to join in the fun.  Wouldn’t it be fun to have a flickr group to show all of the projects we’ve made for others?  I’m going to set one up.  The image above is now a button, so you can add it to your blog if you’d like. [See html code below for the button.]

Sewing and crafting and baking and cooking are talents we are given and then we develop; why not share them with others?  This is my simple way of doing so.

Code for “One for me & one for you” button:

<a href=””><img title=”One for me and one for you” src=”; alt=”” width=”130″ height=”131″ /></a>

If you’re on a WordPress blog, just copy and paste this code into a Text widgit (no title necessary, paste it into the big box).  If you’re on Blogger…do it however you usually do :).
